									description	:	'The apartment where this photograph was taken was originally built for James Oviatt. He described the place, untouched since the 1920s, as a ´castle in the air´ and entertained the likes of Errol Flynn and Howard Hughes there. This was a very busy shoot. A lot of people turned up; stylists, make-up, hair, assistants, publicists, agents, friends, and editors. There was an atmosphere of uncertainty and distrust all round. An exception was the stylist, Tonjua Twist, a superstar in the world of Hollywood. Tragically, she took her own life not long after this photograph was taken. ',

Perhaps this is an early mistake, but I did find this picture reappearing in my work many years later. Many photographers spend their lives working through that one perfect idea—the one that visits them when they are young, wide-eyed, and fuelled with the belief that they can do anything. Some succeed, some fail, and others spend their careers making the same photograph over and over, hoping to realise the vision that has haunted them.',

									description	:	'John Betjeman was very unwell at the time of this photograph. He had Parkinson&rsquo;s Disease and had also suffered a stroke. Lady Elizabeth Cavendish, his partner, helped me move him to the chair for the photograph. I had bought him flowers and he wanted them in the picture. Betjeman remarked that I kept touching my face with my hand. He suspected that it was to make sure I was still there.',

Before that she lived in a hairdresser&rsquo;s window. She gazes unseeing out of the French window at the darkening city background. Evening sunlight on the man sitting in the Morris print chair. He wears a multi-coloured cardigan into which the names of some of his poems are woven: Love Is, Batpoem, Butterfly. A car door slams. Distant sound of a ship&rsquo;s siren. In the room there are cases of stuffed birds, butterflies, a magpie&rsquo;s reliquary. She is beautiful before her green wall. She is the only woman living here and she does not look at him.',
